Rangoli is the younger sister of the bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. She was hit by her ex boyfriend by acid on 6th October 2006.
The rangoli acid attack is the first acid attack in the area of Dehradun. Rangoli was a student of MSc. Microbiology. She stayed in a rented house with her firnd Vijaya. Both belonged to Himanchal Pradesh and were staying there for past one and a half year.
A boy named Avinash, whoa lso belonged to Himanchal Pradesh, was deeply in love with Rangoli. But rangoli got engaged with an army offiver and was about to get married to hm. This disheartened Avinash.
On 6th October, at around 10:30 in the morning, someone knocked their door. Vijaya opened the door and found a person who was asking for Rangoli and said that he has a courier for her. Vijaya called rangoli. As soon as rangoli arrived at the door, the man threw acid on her face. Although rangoli was the prime target but unfortunately, her roommate, vijaya was also roped in. Rangoli’s face and hads were severely burnt.
Their neighbour Vikas Pundir, immideatly took them to the nearest Doon hospital and her parents were informed.
Because it was the first case of acid attack in that area and belonged to the high profile case, the investigation was started immediately by the police. Because the offender had hired someone for this crime, hence it became little difficult for them to catch hold of the main culprit. But very soon Avinash surrendered.
