After struggling for a fortnight, Reshma got signs of justice on Monday when the police team from Lucknow came to the LLR Hospital to record her statement. Reshma, married to Mohammad Naseem of Victoriaganj in Lucknow faced an acid attack by her husband on July 25. The acid was thrown on her private parts. She received severe burn injuries and is struggling for survival. Her parents took her to Kanpur on July 29.
Though the victim with her family decided not to take action against the in-laws and her husband but the support of the locals and NGOs gave the family courage to lodge an FIR.
On Monday, the family of Reshma and members of NGO Lakshya lodged an FIR against her husband Naseem. FIR has also lodged against the cousins of Naseem for threatening and misbehaving with Reshma's family.
Anita Dua of Lakshya said that she will fight for Reshma and her family. SHO of Khala Bazaar Narendra Rana said that the family of Reshma lodged an FIR against Naseem. He had been charged under Section 504, 506 and 326 A. The family also lodge FIR against the brothers of Naseem for fighting with Reshma's family.
"I had sent a police team to record the statement of the victim to Kanpur on Monday afternoon. We will start interrogation after getting the written statement of the victim," SHO added.
The team headed by inspector Ram Kripal Singh recorded the statement of Reshma.Her father Yasin said that Reshma was married to Naseem of Lucknow in 1998. Everything went fine in the initial years of her marriage but the behaviour of the in-laws changed after the delivery of her fifth daughter. The in-laws wanted a male child and when Reshma refused to get the sex-determination done her husband threw acid on her.
"On July 25, Naseem asked Reshma to come with him for sex determination. She refused and Naseem throw a bottle of acid on her private parts. The in-laws locked her in a room for three days and gave no treatment. On getting the news, I reached her In-laws' place where Naseem and his brothers misbehaved with me and my son. I took Reshma to Kanpur on July 29. Since them she is admitted at LLR," added Yasin.Her brother Shahnawaz said that the family of his brother-in-law is continuously threatening him and his parents not to publicize the matter. They threated to kill them in case they lodge an FIR.
For Rehma, getting justice is the only wish of her life. She also wants to give birth to the sixth child be it a girl or a boy.
"I remained quiet by seeing the faces of my little daughters but now I have decided to fight back," she said.
Reshma is being treated by Dr Siddharth of the surgery department of LLR Hospital. "Her burn injuries are very serious and have spoiled due to unavailability of proper and immediate treatment. Though she is mentally very strong to fight but the burnt tissues of her body are showing no signs of recovery. The patient is critical as the burnt tissues take time to get recover. The delayed treatment made the case even worse," the doctor said.
टीम ने लक्ष्मी की मां से बात कर उन्हें दिल्ली ले जाने का प्रस्ताव भी रखा। आलोक दीक्षित के अनुसार रेशमा को न्याय मिलना तो जरूरी है लेकिन उससे भी ज्यादा जरूरी है उसका स्वस्थ होना। कमरे की हालत देखकर ऐसा नहीं लग रहा है। जिस बिस्तर पर वह लेटी है वह गंदा है जबकि ऐसे मरीजों में इंफेक्शन की संभावना सबसे ज्यादा होती है। उस पर बारिश का मौसम। रेशमा की हालत देखकर तो यही लग रहा है कि अस्पताल की ओर से साफ चादर और तकिये भी नहीं दिए जा रहे हैं।
